About us
1889 Our founder Alexander Fletcher Ferguson went to Bombay (now Mumbai), India, as Chief Accountant in the merchant firm of Ritchie, Stewart & Co.
1893 Whilst there Alexander Fletcher Ferguson became a successful accountant in his own right and left the firm to set up in practice as A.F. Ferguson & Co. The firm prospered in Bombay and other cities in the Indian sub-continent. In London it was represented for some years by Viney, Price & Goodyear.
1912 Alexander Fletcher Ferguson left India to open an office in London at 27 Old Jewry.
1925 After being joined by one of the partners of the Indian practice, the London office adopted the name Ferguson, Gilchrist & Co and moved to 10 & 12 Walbrook, London.
1940’s The offices were damaged during the blitz and the firm moved temporarily to 6a Sun Street, Hitchin, Herefordshire. More permanent accommodation was found after the Second World War at 27 Old Broad Street, London.
1954 The London Office became known as Ferguson, Rowland & Davis and shortly after moved to Bush Lane House, Cannon Street, London.
1981 The UK firm merged with Maidment & Co (formerly part of Maidment, Penney Quick & Co) and its name changed to Ferguson Maidment & Co. At the same time it moved to its present address.
1999 The firm acquired part of Wagner and Partners to broaden its client base.
2003 The firm continued with its expansion plans by acquiring Barsham Bradford & Hamilton, another long established firm of chartered accountants.
